Reading midfielder Jem Karacan admits it would be an 'honour' to represent Turkey as he targets an international call-up.
The 21-year-old netted his first goal since April last year for the Royals during their 1-1 draw against Preston at the weekend, the superb strike only his third goal for the club in 60 appearances.
Karacan, born in London, has featured for all age groups in the Turkey set-up from the Under 17s to U21s and boss Guus Hiddink's staff have been keeping taps on the promising youngster.
He is now hoping to earn a place in the full squad in the near future and admits he would be proud to represent Turkey.
"I spoke to the U21s manager a couple of weeks ago and he said it's time for me to push on and that's what I want," he told the Reading Evening Post.
"I don't want to be playing in the U21s, I think people can get wrapped up in playing for the U21s, but I want to push on into the full squad.
"I know the assistant manager for Turkey came to the Crystal Palace game, but it is a very tough game against Germany and I wasn't really expecting a call up for that one, but hopefully I will be for the friendly after that.
"My dad is out there at the moment and it would be an honour to play for them and a country that does really well worldwide.
"Luckily I got that goal because my mum, brother and sister were there and it was for them."
