Nigel Adkins saluted new Southampton striker Billy Sharp, while Burnley boss Eddie Howe was left to bemoan their 2-0 defeat at St Mary's.
Howe hits out at 'poor' Burnley display
Nigel Adkins believes new signing Billy Sharp could be crucial in their promotion push after the striker helped Southampton defeat Burnley 2-0 at St Mary's.
Adam Lallana headed Saints into an early lead before Sharp netted the second, although Burnley defender Ben Mee also played a role in the ball finding the back of the net.
And Adkins feels that the addition of the former Doncaster striker in the January transfer window will help his squad as they battle to secure promotion to the Premier League.
Massive threat
He said: "He is going to be a massive threat in this league. But it is not about 11 players, we have a very strong squad to deal with the latter stages of the campaign.
"You can see the link-up play between Rickie Lambert and Billy, there are goals in both of them. They are going to be a huge threat for any defence.
"We have very good strikers at this football club now. It was a good victory, we played some very good football and could have scored a lot more goals.
"There is a real belief about us now and the win sets us up nicely for the rest of the season."
Poor
Burnley boss Eddie Howe would only spare goalkeeper Lee Grant from his ire as the Clarets were second best for significant periods on the south coast.
He said: "It was as poor as we have played for a long time. I don't think any player has come out of it with much credit except for Lee Grant.
"We have to hit the ground running now and start winning our home games between now and the end of the season.
"The defeat has served us a notice. We knew it was going to be probably our toughest game of the season and I am very disappointed with how we played."
