Reading youngster to continue development at League One club

Sky Sports understands Reading defender Michael Hector is set to join Shrewsbury on a six-month loan. The 20-year-old signed a new two-year extension with the Royals this summer and is highly-rated within the club. Hector was farmed out on-loan to Barnet last season and produced a collection of impressive displays which sparked interest from several Championship clubs. However, Brian McDermott rejected their advances and views the callow defender as one he could maybe utilise in the second half of the season. At 6"4, Hector cuts an imposing figure, but it's his ability to bring the ball out of defence which has earned him plaudits. Hector was plucked from non-league Thurrock and has drawn comparisons with Manchester United's Chris Smalling, who also began his career in the non-league.
