Livingstone joined The Mariners from Chelsea over seven years ago and went on record earlier this season as saying that he would like to finish his career with the club.
Speaking to the club's official website, Lawrence said: "Steve has been a great servant to the club and I am happy with the way talks went and he has been happy to sign a two-year contract. Negotiations with other players will continue."
With ten other Town players holding contracts that are due to expire at the end of the season, Lawrence faces a busy time in trying to keep his current squad together.
Amongst those whose contracts are due to run out in the summer are defender Peter Handyside and young utility-man Danny Butterfield.
Both players have been linked to other clubs with Portsmouth boss Steve Claridge expressing an interest in Handyside and Nottingham Forest reportedly being keen on signing Butterfield.
