Molineux boss Dave Jones is still recovering from illness but that has not stopped him from looking to agree a £200,000 fee for the 24-year-old.
Derry has struggled with injury during his spell at Fratton Park and Harry Redknapp does not see him in his plans for the future.
The former Sheffield United man will be keen to return home to the Midlands and start again with Wolves, providing the two clubs can agree on a fee.
Meanwhile, Wolves left back Lee Naylor could be the subject of a bid from Premiership side Southampton.
The 22-year-old is one of the most likely players to be leaving the club to provide cash for further transfers, and he had been watched by Aston Villa in the past.
Saints boss Gordon Strachan rates him highly and he would provide a replacement for Wayne Bridge should the club decide to cash in on the England man.
Reports from around the Midlands have even suggested that Jones could use the opportunity to try and bring Kevin Davies to Molineux.
Jones was in charge of Davies at The Dell and he could try use Naylor as part of a deal to bring Davies to Wolves.
