The Saddlers boss is reported to be trying to cut short Deon Burton's stay at the club in order to bring in former Celtic hit-man Mark Burchill.
Burton has made three starts since arriving at The Bescot Stadium, but has yet to open his account for the club and now finds himself out of Lee's first team plans.
The Walsall boss decided to leave Burton on the bench for Monday's victory over Gillingham, and is now reported to be ready to let the former Derby striker end his time in the Midlands.
Lee is hoping to persuade Pompey counterpart Harry Redknapp to allow Burchill to move in the opposite direction to Burton in a bid to bolster his attacking options.
The Scot recently completed a month-long loan spell at Division One high-flyers Wigan, but failed to break into Paul Jewell's first team, and Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie believes another loan stint is in the player's best interests.
"Mark needs to get a move away and the best way to do that is to go on loan and do well."
