The Latics have been reportedly linked with a number of players this week, including an improved bid to West Bromwich Albion for striker Jason Roberts, who is on loan at Premiership side Portsmouth.
Celtic's Steve Guppy, Wrexham's Carlos Edwards and Manchester City's Lee Croft have all been linked with a move to The JJB Stadium.
Premiership side Southampton are also thought to have turned down Wigan's bid for the duo of striker Brett Ormerod and defender Chris Baird.
Jewell confirmed to his club's official website the bids he has made so far - as he seeks a replacement for departed striker Geoff Horsfield.
"I made a couple of bids early last week and also one on Friday but that was turned down," said Jewell.
"However, we improved that offer yesterday (Monday) and have given a deadline of until Thursday for the club to come back to us with an answer to our offer.
"I know it's frustrating for our supporters but I'll have to leave you to have a guess about who the players are because I don't feel it's right to do my business in public.
"I'm hoping that at least a couple of our latest enquiries come off, but I have said and thought that before so we'll have to just wait and see.
"What I do hope though, is that people realise quite how hard we are working to get some new players in as we will all benefit from adding to our squad.
"It's a case of being patient once again for all of us but let's hope this time we have a bit of luck with the enquiries we have made."
Winger Guppy has revealed his hope of a move away from Parkhead, after falling out of favour with Bhoys boss Martin O'Neill.
"I'm not in the side and the manager knows I want to play regular football," Guppy told the Manchester Evening News.
"I am going to sit down and have a chat with him to decide what's best. We'll see what happens."
