Brazilian striker Marcio Amoroso has flown into England and has explained to skysports.com his plans.
The international star is available on a free transfer after leaving Borussia Dortmund - and has targeted a move to The Premiership.
It is understood that Portsmouth are gearing up to take a look at him first, but other clubs such as Fulham, Bolton, Middlesbrough and Newcastle are looking for possible talks.
"I have come over here to get to know England, the place where football was born," Amoroso told skysports.com.
"When I heard of Portsmouth's interest I was very happy, but there are other clubs.
"There has been interest from clubs in Italy, Spain and Portugal
"I am a free agent at the moment and I want to make the right choice."
Amoroso was released by Dortmund earlier this season following a knee injury, but he is now fully recovered and looking at his options.
Portsmouth will now be hoping that they can persuade the former Udinese and Parma man, to move to Fratton Park.
"We will have him over for a couple of days and see how he shapes up," said Pompey manager Harry Redknapp.
However, the fight for his signature is likely to be intense as a host of clubs from around the continent look to seal his signing.
