Gary O'Neil has returned to Portsmouth after picking up a hamstring injury at Cardiff.Gary O'Neil has returned to Portsmouth following his loan spell at Cardiff, but he will not get the chance to shine in the near future as he has damaged a hamstring.
Pompey chief Harry Redknapp brought the young midfielder back to Fratton Park with the intention of handing him a first-team opportunity, but O'Neil could be out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring complaint.
"He's unlucky," said Redknapp. "He needs to be playing first-team football at this stage of his career but (Nigel) Quashie and Amdy Faye have been doing so well for us in his position.
"We had an automatic recall agreement on him with Cardiff and I got him back after the injuries we picked up at Villa on Saturday.
"Unfortunately, though, he's got a hamstring problem and won't be fit for tomorrow. I don't know yet how much longer he will be out."
O'Neil made nine appearances for Cardiff and was hoping to make a similar impact for Pompey, but he will likely have to kick his heels on the sidelines for around a fortnight.
