Fuller fully focused

Ricardo Fuller is focused on his role at Portsmouth despite outside interest.

Ricardo Fuller has insisted that the speculation linking him with Southampton has not affected his game.

Since Harry Redknapp left Portsmouth to join their bitter rivals, there has been speculation that the 25-year-old will follow midfielder Nigel Quashie across the South Coast divide.

Redknapp himself has admitted that he is working on a deal to bring the striker to Fratton Park before the January transfer window closes, and may face his transfer target as the teams clash in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

However the Jamaican international has insisted that nothing has been finalised as of yet, and that he is focused on improving with Pompey.

"I wouldn't rule anything out but at the minute I'm a Portsmouth player," said Fuller Sky Sports News.

"All I want to do is concentrate on my football and let the speculation stay to whatever respective persons say.

"I have got to keep focused on what I've got to do which is progress at Portsmouth.

"I've seen stuff in papers, there's a lot of stuff like that in football.

"I'll keep my head down, work hard, get my game and hopefully get on the scoresheet and continue to play well."

Fuller was employed as a lone striker whilst star forward Yakubu Aiyegbeni was injured, and admitted that whilst the role may have been beneficial for the team, it was not a fruitful situation for him personally.

The powerful front man has scored just one goal in The Premiership after making the step up from Preston, and is looking to improve on this poor record.

"[Playing as a lone striker has been] really hard to be honest, but in saying that we've not had any really bad results, only lost once in about seven or eight games.

"It was working quite well but for me personally it wasn't working as I want to be getting on the scoresheet.

"What I'm here to do as a striker is score goals, you start to be shown up when things are going bad for the club.

"It was like that, playing on my own was quite successful for the team but not for myself."
