Jamie Ashdown has blasted boss Velimir Zajec over his treatment at Portsmouth.Portsmouth goalkeeper Jamie Ashdown has blasted boss Velimir Zajec over his treatment at the club.
The 24-year-old accused Zajec of attempting to unsettle himself and Shaka Hislop by denying them a consistent run in the side.
Ashdown believes that this could have been Zajec's way of smoothing the path for the arrival of fellow countryman Kostas Chalkias from Panathinaikos during the transfer window.
"Nobody really knew who was No 1 and maybe that was his way of bringing someone else in." Ashdown told The Sun.
"Changing the goalkeeper every other week did not help me because in the Premiership you need a run of about 10 games to establish yourself."
Ashdown also questioned Zajec's decision to bring in another goalkeeper at Portsmouth.
"It was a strange decision bringing in another goalkeeper." commented Ashdown.
"We already had three on the books and there were other areas of the team that needed strengthening more."
Ashdown believes that Shaka Hislop shares his feelings about the arrival of Chalkias.
"Shaka has been No 1 here for two and a half years and he didn't think we needed another keeper either." admitted Ashdown.
"This is not an ideal situation for either of us, but Shaka has been massive to this team so he'll be even more angry than me."
Meanwhile, Portsmouth defender Dejan Stefanovic has admitted that Chalkias will need time to adjust to Premiership football.
"I signed for Sheffield Wednesday in mid-season and didn't speak a word of English, so it was very difficult." noted Stefanovic.
"It will take Kostas quite a few games to adjust. We'll give him all the support we can, and he'll soon appreciate the team spirit we have here."
