Harry Redknapp has praised the performances of Gary O'Neil and Richard Hughes.Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp believes the performances of Gary O'Neil and Richard Hughes were pivotal in their 1-0 win over Fulham.
Redknapp's latest rescue operation at Fratton Park is beginning to take shape and following a New Year's Eve boost, Portsmouth have taken seven points from three home games since his appointment.
O'Neil grabbed the winner two minutes before half time, with Redknapp full of praise for the player and his central midfield partner Hughes.
"It was a massive win for us and you need lads like that in this situation,'' said Redknapp.
''It was vital we got points today and Richard said he wanted to play.
"He broke his hand a few weeks ago and they said he shouldn't play for a month but he has not missed a game so far.
"That's Gary's second goal for us since I've been back and you can see his commitment.''
Redknapp is convinced that home form will determine whether his side can maintain their top flight status, with several other important clashes coming up.
"When I came in again I could see we had three home games to finish the year and it was important to get points from them because we had tough away games at Tottenham and Arsenal,'' he concluded.
"But we will see what happens in the transfer window now and I'm confident we will get some good players coming here next month.
"We have to keep plugging away and try to draw other teams into it. A few points are not very much - you can make them up in a week.
"Our home form will be a big consideration but I might be able to put together a team that can win away as well."
