Newcastle are interested in Gregory Vignal, but are yet to make a firm bid.Gregory Vignal's agent has confirmed Newcastle are interested in Portsmouth's French left back, but says he has not heard from them in the past few days.
The French full back is certain to leave Fratton Park during the January transfer window, with Newcastle the most interested party.
Vignal's agent Phillipe Flavier says that he has been contacted by Graeme Souness but says no concrete offer has come in from St James' Park as yet.
"I have had Graeme Souness on the phone, he was very interested," Flavier told skysports.com.
"But in the last few days, I haven't received news from Newcastle."
Flavier added that Vignal does not want to return to France with Monaco, and would prefer to stay in England if possible.
"I can say that Gregory Vignal won't play for Monaco, he isn't keen on playing in France as he is used to playing abroad.
"He loves the Premiership and would like to stay in England.
"Another possible destination could be Portugal. A Super Liga club is interested in him.
"I can say that he will certainly leave Portsmouth and sign for a big club during the window."
Vignal has been struggling to lay down any foundations since being told he was surplus to requirements at Liverpool, with a flurry of loan spells.
After playing for Bastia, Rennes, Espanyol and Rangers, he finally joined Portsmouth on a free transfer but again it seems as though it has not worked out.
