Harry Redknapp says he returned to Portsmouth because they wanted him back.Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp says he returned to Fratton Park because the Premiership club wanted him back.
The former Bournemouth and West Ham United boss was responding to reports claiming Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric and co-owner Alexandre Gaydamak wanted to sack Redknapp following a poor run of form.
The South Coast club have struggled since Redknapp returned to the Portsmouth post from Hampshire rivals Southampton nine weeks ago to replace sacked Frenchman Alain Perrin.
Pompey have won only two of the 11 contests they have played since Redknapp was re-appointed, leaving the club second from bottom and eight points adrift of safety in the Premiership table.
On Tuesday, Portsmouth denied claims that Redknapp's future was in doubt, and the Pompey boss went on to state that he has not given up on the club's chances for survival.
"I'm here because they want me here," Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
"Ask (Tresor Lomana) Lua Lua and the rest of the boys down at the club because they are all working their b******s off to try to get us out of this.
"No one is giving up, but I'm not a magician. I'm trying to wave a magic wand, but it's not easy to turn everything around."
Pompey's current plight will not be helped following comments made by midfielder Richard Hughes regarding his lack of first-team action.
The Scotland international criticised Redknapp for not giving him an explanation as to why he has been dropped to Pompey's reserves.
"I'm disgusted by the whole situation and I've had enough," Hughes said.
"I played for Portsmouth 24 hours after breaking my hand and in return, I don't even get told why I am out of the team.
"He hasn't spoken to me to offer me an explanation because he hasn't got one."
