Portsmouth star Matthew Taylor insists Harry Redknapp's side are remaining cautious about their prospects of avoiding the drop, despite hitting form at a crucial time.
The South Coast outfit looked good candidates for relegation before back-to-back wins over Manchester City and West Ham United pulled them back to within three points of safety.
With form paramount at the business end of the season, Pompey are hopeful of mounting a sustained salvation charge, but Taylor says no-one at Fratton Park is getting carried away after their recent success.
West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City will also be fighting tooth and nail to retain their Premiership status, and with eight games to go, Taylor insists Pompey are well aware of the task ahead.
"We put two back-to-back wins together, and everything has changed," Taylor told the club's official website.
"However, we have got a long way to go, so we cannot count any chickens yet - but we are making steps in the right direction.
"Obviously, if we carry on winning games then we will give ourselves a chance - but we are still three points away from safety and still in the bottom three."
