Portsmouth target Ryan Nelsen has agreed a new four-year deal at Blackburn.
New Zealand star Ryan Nelsen has ended any talk of a possible move to Portsmouth by agreeing a new four-year deal at Ewood Park.
Although Nelsen had two years left to run on his previous contract he has been rewarded with an improved deal for his impressive form ever since joining Mark Hughes' side on a free transfer in 2005.
Rovers were prompted into action regarding an extension of the defender's current deal after they turned down three separate bids from Harry Redknapp's South Coast outfit for the 28-year-old.
The former DC United star caught Redknapp's eye with a number of influential performances in the Rovers' backline last season, but the Lancashire side stood firm in the face of a determined pursuit from the cash-rich Fratton Park outfit.
Nelsen has now committed his future to Hughes' cause by agreeing on a four-year deal as he looks to make a further impression during the coming season.
Rovers kick-off their Premiership challenge against Pompey on Saturday, and the ending of speculation regarding their star stopper will be warmly welcomed as they aim to replicate last term's sixth placed finish.
