Pompey still want Muntari

Harry Redknapp is still hoping to bring Ghanaian winger Sulley Muntari to Portsmouth.

Harry Redknapp is still hoping to bring Ghanaian winger Sulley Muntari to Portsmouth.

Pompey celebrated the start of the new Premiership season with a thumping 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers at Fratton Park on Saturday.

But Redknapp is never one to rest on his laurels and he is committed to adding to his squad further before the close of the transfer window.

Udinese starlet Muntari has been a top target for the flush Premiership club and talks have taken place regarding a deal.

The sticking point is the valuation of the promising wide man, who has claimed a move is '99 percent' close to completion.

Serie A side Udinese have disputed this suggestion and are adamant that an agreement is not a foregone conclusion.

For his part, Redknapp is refusing to concede defeat in his quest to sign Muntari as he feels his Portsmouth squad still requires further strengthening.

"The squad needs strengthening," affirmed Redknapp. "We're short.

"It's been the story of our summer.

"We made good offers for players, but clubs don't want to sell.

"We still want Sulley Muntari from Udinese."
