Portsmouth striker Nwankwo Kanu admits he is desperate to return to Ajax.
Nwankwo Kanu admits he is desperate to return to Ajax in a revelation that is sure to rock Portsmouth and their manager Harry Redknapp.
The 30-year-old Nigerian has seen his career rejuvenated since arriving on the South Coast in the summer and a run of seven goals in his first ten starts for the club is testimony to his efforts.
However, while the move has proved mutually beneficial for both parties, Kanu has now confirmed he would love, along with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Edgar Davids, a final sojourn in the Eredivisie.
"My roots lie at Ajax," he told the Daily Express.
"I became an adult there and I would really like to go back. Edgar also wants to go to Ajax and we can still have a beautiful time together.
"If Ajax want to come and negotiate, I will, gladly.
"I would get on the plane to Amsterdam with my wife and my child straight away. I know Amsterdam very well.
"Friends of mine live there and my lawyer as well. I also still watch Ajax. The team is different but the supporters are the same.
"I was happy in Amsterdam, happy with the city, with the club, with my friends."
Ajax were Kanu's boyhood club and back in 1995, he claimed the European Cup with the Amsterdam giants, with a return to Holland clearly at the forefront of the striker's mind.
