Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp admits the club are interested in Sulley Muntari, but he still doubts whether a deal could be done.
The Ghana international is a long-term target for Redknapp, having impressed hugely at last summer's World Cup finals.
Udinese have previously been unwilling to sell and even through they are now willing to listen to offers, they are demanding a big fee - which continues to put Redknapp off.
"We've enquired about Sulley Muntari," confirmed Redknapp.
"But he's too expensive, we won't bother. I'm not desperate anywhere."
Muntari's departure could be helped by the possible capture of Danish starlet Niki Zimling.
The Danish starlet's agent has confirmed that a deal could be close.
"Their interest in Niki (Zimling) is still very strong," stated agent Vincenzo Morabito to BT.
"I know they have prepared a new and better offer to Esbjerg and it is now just a matter of the clubs starting to negotiate."
