Potters swoop for Prem duo

Stoke have signed defenders Dominic Matteo and Andy Griffin.

Stoke have completed the signings of Blackburn defender Dominic Matteo and ex-Potters star Andy Griffin.

Matteo pitched up with Tony Pulis's Championship high-flyers after negotiating a release from his Rovers contract which had less than six months left to run.

The 32-year-old, who joined Rovers from Leeds in the summer of 2004, has not played for Rovers in over a year.

His last appearance, and 39th for the club, came in Rovers' FA Cup win over Queens Park Rangers last January.

Free transfer signing Matteo moves on a deal initially until the end of the season, and is joined at the club by Portsmouth full-back Griffin.

Griffin, who has already spent the first half of the season on loan at The Britannia Stadium, returns to the club in a similar arrangement until the end of the season but with a view to a permanent switch at the end of it.

Both players have been signed in time to be eligible for The Potters' trip to Preston on Saturday.
