David Nugent is hoping playing in the Premier League will boost his England chances.David Nugent is hoping his Portsmouth switch will strengthen his chances of playing for England at Euro 2008.
Former Preston ace Nugent has already made an international appearance and even scored on his debut after netting from the bench against Andorra.
Nugent is now looking to try his hand at Premier League football and is confident that scoring goals will catch boss Steve McClaren's eye ahead of Austria/Switzerland next summer.
"I'm in the Premier League now, so hopefully I can score a few goals on the pitch and get the call-up," he told Sky Sports News.
"There's another tournament in the summer as well so you never know I might get the call-up.
"It was nice to get the call-up while playing for Preston. It shows to other people that it can be done.
"Now I'm at Portsmouth hopefully now he'll (McClaren) recognise me and I'll get another call-up.
"It's all on scoring goals now. Whoever scores the most goals will probably get there."
Meanwhile, the former Bury striker does not believe his lofty £6million price tag will weigh too heavily on his mind.
"It won't bother me one bit. The price tag is different to playing out on the football pitch," he continued.
"I've not played in the Premiership before so I'm looking to prove a few people wrong."
