Portsmouth striker David Nugent admits he is struggling for fitness ahead of his first Premier League season.
The 22-year-old recently arrived at Fratton Park, following a £6million move from Preston, as Pompey manager Harry Redknapp bids to add firepower to his attack.
Nugent, though, has yet to find the back of the net in the two friendlies he has played for Portsmouth and the forward says he is struggling for goalscoring sharpness.
"I need to get fitter," Nugent told The Daily Mirror.
"If you are not fit enough you cannot get in the positions to score."
However, Nugent is optimistic he will soon be celebrating his first goal in Portsmouth colours.
"In the next few games I will get sharper and start scoring goals," Nugent added.
"I have got to improve my game for the Premier League, but I'm sure that I can score goals here."
