Luke Young has moved a step closer to a move to Middlesbrough by passing a medical.Luke Young has moved a step closer to a move to Middlesbrough by passing a medical at The Riverside.
Young held talks with Boro earlier this week after they agreed a £2.5million fee with Charlton for the England international last weekend.
The 28-year-old is now expected to put the finishing touches to the move in the next 24 hours with Boro boss Gareth Southgate confirming the deal was close to being sealed.
"Luke has been through all the medicals, that was fine, it's really just a case of getting all the forms through from Charlton and were pretty much there," Southgate told the club's official website.
"We're delighted with that one, but until it's all signed I don't want to say anything further."
Meanwhile, Southgate has again rejected rumours linking Yakubu Aiyegbeni with a move away from the club.
The likes of Manchester City, Portsmouth and Birmingham have all been credited with an interest in the Nigerian international.
However, Southgate says he has had no offers for the player and that Yakubu was happy on Teesside.
"I've had a chat with him again today and he's very happy," added Southgate.
"We've had no contact from any other club and nor would we welcome any.
"As far as we're concerned he's our player, he's in training with us and he seems very settled."
