Experienced Czech striker Milan Baros is looking to take his chances at Portsmouth.

Hit-man is relishing the competition upfront

Czech striker Milan Baros is looking to take his chances at Portsmouth and repay Harry Redknapp's faith in him. The former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker faces plenty of competition for places upfront - including £8million record signing Jermain Defoe - as well as the return of Kanu and John Utaka from the Africa Cup of Nations. The 26-year-old has yet to score in three appearances since making his loan switch from Lyon but could to get his chance again in Sunday's FA Cup fifth round clash at Preston as Defoe is cup-tied for the game. Speaking of the intense competition for places at Portsmouth, he told The Sun: "That's football, but Portsmouth didn't sign me to just sit on the bench. "I haven't gone into something new, I know what to expect from the English league.

Way up

"I believe if I play regularly and don't get injured, I'll be on the way up and we'll get into the Uefa Cup. I'll definitely get chances - it all just depends on myself. "There are plenty of matches between now and the end of the season and nobody can expect to play in them all. "I know I'll get more chances than I got at Lyon. Of course, I'll have competition but that's the way it is in any great team."
