Pompey keen on Inter midfielder

Portsmouth chairman Peter Storrie has confirmed that Patrick Vieira remains a transfer target for the club, but admits the Frenchman is unlikely to join during the January transfer window. The South Coast outfit have been strongly linked with a host of midfield options in recent weeks, with a suitable replacement for Lasanna Diarra needed to be found. Juventus' Danish international Christian Poulsen has been touted, while a move for Valencia's former Arsenal star Edu collapsed after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement. France international Vieira has emerged as another high-profile contender, with Pompey having already enquired as to his availability. With the 32-year-old currently carrying an Achilles injury Storrie admits a deal will not be struck this month, but remains optimistic that a move could be rekindled in the summer. "Patrick is someone we would be very keen to bring here," he said. "Obviously he is very well-known to Tony (Adams), but my understanding is he has got an injury and that won't be possible in this window."
