Portsmouth have confirmed an interest in bringing Aston Villa midfielder Jonathan Hogg back to Fratton Park next season.
Hogg impressed in making 19 appearances for the Championship club during the second half of this campaign and is now waiting to learn what the future holds.
The 22-year-old's agent revealed last week that Hogg would be open to a return to Pompey if he is not part of Villa's plans next term.
Pompey chief executive David Lampitt would not rule out a permanent bid for Hogg, but will be guided by Villa regarding the player's potential availability.
"We were really pleased with the contribution Hoggy made during his time here," Lampitt told The News.
"We're fully respectful of the fact he is an Aston Villa player, however. That situation is the foremost issue for Jonathan.
"It's really down to Aston Villa as to whether there is any opportunity for him to be here next season.
"Whether that's in a loan capacity or in a permanent capacity, we would have to wait and see. But it would be totally down to Aston Villa."
