Appleton hails Pompey youngsters

Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton saluted Adam Webster and Ashley Harris after they helped Pompey to a 3-0 win at Crawley.

Defender Webster, 17, came on in the first half following an injury to Gabor Gyepes and his cross was converted by fellow substitute Harris, 18, for Pompey's crucial first goal before Luke Rodgers and Izale McLeod wrapped up the victory. "I could have made two more experienced changes," said Appleton. "When I brought Adam Webster on, I could have easily pushed Darel Russell back or brought Jonny Ertl on. "But I just felt the way they were set up and the way we needed to beat them meant those were the substitutions to make. "Ashley did well when he came on. I was pleased because he scored the goal and it was a fantastic ball from Adam, so we had two youngsters contributing to getting us under way."
