FA to appeal any World Cup ban on Dele Alli

The FA will appeal against any FIFA decision to ban Dele Alli if it would affect him playing in the World Cup in Russia, Sky sources understand.

Alli could be suspended for up to four competitive matches for making an offensive gesture during England's 2-1 win over Slovakia at Wembley last month.

Anything more than a two-game ban would see Alli unable to play in England's World Cup openers in Russia, if qualification is secured.

FIFA's disciplinary committee started considering Alli's case on Wednesday and will come to a decision on Thursday - though that decision is likely not to be made public for several days.
