Five stats to tell your mates from Saturday's Premier League action

Marcos Alonso celebrates with team-mates after giving Chelsea a 1-0 lead

We pick out five of standout statistics to tell your mates from Saturday's Premier League action.

So which defender scored his 10th Premier League goal since the start of last season?

And which goalkeeper kept his 199th clean sheet?

Awesome Alonso

Marcos Alonso underlined his importance to Chelsea's attack as his stunning free-kick gave Chelsea a 1-0 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge. The left wing-back has now scored 10 Premier League goals since the start of last season - more than any other defender in the division.

Alonso was a constant menace to Southampton, in fact, attempting six shots on goal in total - twice as many as any other player on the pitch. Over the course of this season, striker Alvaro Morata is the only Chelsea player to have had more attempts on goal. It's quite the feat for a defender.

Cech closes on landmark

Mesut Ozil was Arsenal's hero against Newcastle as his stunning volley gave Arsene Wenger's side a much-needed victory at the Emirates Stadium. But at the other end of the pitch, it was also a significant day for goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The former Chelsea shot-stopper helped keep Rafael Benitez's side at bay and is now only one shutout away from number 200. He will be the first goalkeeper in Premier League history to reach the landmark. Will he do it against Liverpool on Friday Night Football?

Pain for Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino endured another disappointing away day against one of the Premier League's top six, as his Tottenham side were thrashed 4-1 by Pep Guardiola's imperious Manchester City.

Spurs boss Pochettino has been rightly lauded for the job he has done at Spurs, but he has only won once in 18 Premier League games away to City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. It is a record he must improve in order to keep Spurs moving forwards.

Murray misses again

Glenn Murray skied a penalty as Brighton were held to a goalless draw by Burnley at the Amex Stadium. The striker has now missed three of his last five spot kicks in the Premier League. The Seagulls, now seven games without a win, will need him to hit the target next time around.

Horror show for Hughes

West Ham piled more pressure on Mark Hughes as they claimed a 3-0 win over Stoke at the bet365 Stadium. It was the Potters' third consecutive Premier League defeat and leaves them just a point above the relegation zone.

Stoke's defensive problems are a particular cause for concern for Hughes. As well as conceding nine goals in their last three games, they have only kept one clean sheet in their last 16.
