Merson's predictions: Man Utd, Chelsea and Spurs to reach FA Cup semi-finals
Last Updated: 17/03/18 3:14pm
Paul Merson is back for another round of Premier League predictions - and this week we've thrown in some FA Cup ties for good measure!
There's just four top-flight games for the Magic Man to cast his eye over on FA Cup quarter-final weekend.
The battle for survival in the Premier League takes centre stage with five of the bottom nine in action, while seven Premier League clubs look to move to within one win of a place in the FA Cup final.
Here's who Merse is tipping ahead of a potentially defining weekend...
Bournemouth v West Brom (Saturday, 3pm)
West Brom are gone now, after losing 4-1 at home to Leicester in a game they needed to win. They are just seeing the season out. I know Bournemouth got beat at home to Tottenham, but they are strong at home. Before that defeat, they scored two goals in their last five home games, and I expect them to keep that trend going against the Baggies.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0 (7/1 with Sky Bet)
Huddersfield v Crystal Palace (Saturday, 3pm)
I watched Huddersfield last week playing against 10 men for 79 minutes plus stoppage-time and they never looked like scoring. Palace, meanwhile, should have got a result at Chelsea in all honesty. With Wilfried Zaha back to fitness and back in the team, I fancy them to get a massive result.
PAUL PREDICTS: 1-2 (9/1 with Sky Bet)
Stoke v Everton (Saturday, 3pm)
With Stoke in the bottom three, they simply have to win this game. And when you consider that Everton are not great away from home, it makes a home win all the more important. The atmosphere at the bet365 Stadium will be great, they will get behind the team and roar them onto a massive victory.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0 (10/1 with Sky Bet)
Liverpool v Watford (Saturday, 5.30pm)
I can't see anything but a Liverpool win. I fancy Liverpool to beat Manchester United into second, and this game is important for them to close down the current five-point gap. There's a lot to play for second place, mark my words. United have to play Manchester City so the gap will be two points, so Liverpool have to ensure they win these games.
PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 (6/1 with Sky Bet)
FA Cup quarter-finals
Swansea v Tottenham (Saturday, 12.15pm)
I don't see how Swansea win this game - their priority is staying in the Premier League. They have bigger fish to fry with their survival bid so I expect them to make changes, something that will play into Spurs' hands.
PAUL PREDICTS: 0-2 (5/1 with Sky Bet)
Man Utd v Brighton (Saturday, 7.45pm)
Manchester United have to win this game after their disappointing Champions League exit. Brighton are not completely safe from relegation but they are close, so they will be able to have a go at United. But with their chances of silverware hinging on this competition, I have to go with United.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0 (9/2 with Sky Bet)
Wigan v Southampton (Sunday, 1.30pm)
Wigan got a huge result in midweek at Bradford - if they'd have lost that they wouldn't have needed this game. They've got enough games in hand in the league as it is, so to fall another game behind while playing in the cup after not winning would not have been ideal. I can understand Mark Hughes' appointment at Southampton, he played there. He's the kind of manager that can get several wins on the spin and I think the Mark Hughes factor will be telling in his first game in charge.
PAUL PREDICTS: 0-1 (5/1 with Sky Bet)
Leicester v Chelsea (Sunday, 4.30pm)
This is a hard game to call but I fancy Chelsea, despite Leicester's heavy win at struggling West Brom. Chelsea had their moments at Barcelona and their fans cannot be too disappointed because they had a go, unlike United the night before. Things could well have been different had they been more clinical. If Chelsea play anything like they did over the two legs against Barca, they'll beat Leicester.
PAUL PREDICTS: 1-3 (14/1 with Sky Bet)
