The tough-tackling full back, who would command a fee of around £5 million has been linked with a move away from The Dons throughout the season, with Liverpool also said to be interested in acquiring his services.
"Tottenham have admitted an interest in Ben Thatcher," Pleat said. "It is true that during the aborted John Hartson transfer deal between the two clubs Ben Thatcher's future was discussed."
Thatcher would join Eire Under-21 international Doherty at White Hart Lane who has completed a £1 million move from Luton, though the fee could rise by another £500,000 depending on appearances.
Doherty, 20, is a versatile player who can play in defence, but the player feels he is more likely to be charged with solving Spurs` long-term problems in attack.
"I think they bought me as a centre forward to be honest and I won't turn down playing up front," the Donegal-born player said. "I've played around 30 games at the back this season, but I always wanted other people to make the decision for me.
"You've always got to try and better yourself. I'm taking a big gamble but you have to want to play with the best. I can still live at home with my Mum and Dad and that's the main thing."
