As reported on planetfootball.com, Benfica have already spoken to Real Madrid about the possibility of taking Geremi (pictured) on loan next season.
The Cameroonian defender has not been able to hold down a regular place in the Madrid starting eleven this season, and at present is understudy to Spanish international Michel Salgado.
Real Madrid are keen to bring Marchena back to La Primera Liga, and know that the ex-Sevilla player is also keen to return to his homeland.
Benfica would not want to part with their prized defender, but would welcome the revenue from his sale, and he has been tracked by a number of European clubs.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Deportivo La Coruna and Atletico Madrid have been credited with an interest in Marchena, whilst Tottenham Hotspur are also supposed to be monitoring the situation.
Negotiations are believed to be on-going between the two clubs and earlier this week Benfica president Manuel Vilarinho was spotted having lunch in Madrid with his Real counterpart, Florentino Perez.
