The Republic of Ireland international was stretchered off after a thunderous collision with Eifion Williams in the 11th minute of Spurs' 2-0 Worthington cup win over Torquay on Thursday.
The 21-year-old was taken to hospital for x-rays on a damaged ankle but it is not year clear whether the star has suffered ligament damage or a fracture.
"We think Gary has strained his ankle ligaments," added Hoddle.
"He has had x-rays and will have further scans tomorrow morning. Until we get the answers from the scan we won't know 100 per cent how bad the damage is.
"We are hoping it is not broken. There is pain around his ankle and it is inflamed around the ligament area, so I am fairly confident it won't be a major problem.
"He could be out for two weeks or it could be a lot longer, we shall wait and see the results of the scans."
