The Argentine defender is now contracted to the club until the summer of 2005 after an impressive start to the season.
Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle has been keen to tie down the player on a new long-term deal and reward him for his form this term.
The 28-year-old former Ipswich man has won his chance to impress Hoddle because of a long-term injury to regular right full back Stephen Carr and he has proved to be more than a capable deputy for the Republic of Ireland international.
Meanwhile, Spurs midfielder Darren Anderton has revealed he is only training part-time in a bid to play more regularly.
The England international, who has seen the last few seasons ravaged by injuries, is still recovering from an Achilles problem and he hopes by doing less training the injury will clear up.
"The tendon is so sore after matches I hardly do anything on the next two training days," said Anderton.
"It means I have to make up for it by really working hard later in the week to get my fitness."
