Hoddle decided to recall the American international after the Honduras friendly, so he would be available for Spurs' FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea.
After missing out on European football when his Spurs side were beaten 2-1 by Blackburn in the Worthington Cup final last Sunday, Hoddle is looking to focus his team's efforts on getting back to the Millennium Stadium in the FA Cup.
Keller said: "I was given permission from Glenn to go out for the Concacaf Gold Cup and for the recent friendly in Italy but now I've heard from the American Federation that I have to come back after the first game against Honduras.
"That means I will only be out with the US side for a week."
The trip back to America for Keller is vital if he is to regain the U.S. number one jersey from first-choice custodian, Blackburn Rovers' Brad Friedel.
With Keller acting as cover for Neil Sullivan at White Hart Lane and Friedel first-choice at Ewood Park, every match that Keller is available for will help his international cause and he is adamant that he needs to be available for both friendlies.
He added: "Every game that I play for the national team is a positive move towards winning the No. 1 spot in the World Cup this summer.
"But now the club are cutting my time short so I can come back and sit on the bench against Manchester United and Chelsea.
"Spurs have an agreement with the U.S. side that if they need me urgently, I am to return on the next plane.
"I need to justify to the national team that I am playing games - so I am saying please let me go for the two matches."
