Carr missed the entire 2001/02 campaign with a knee injury and was making his long-awaited first team comeback at Goodison Park.
But the Republic of Ireland defender will be sidelined for several weeks with the hamstring problem he suffered in the first half of the 2-2 stalemate.
Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle admitted it was a bitter blow for Carr, just as the right back had embarked on his return to action.
"We have lost Stephen now for several weeks with a hamstring injury," said Hoddle.
"It's a great shame for the lad because he has waited a year to get back into action after his knee injury.
"Now the hamstring looks bad, it's not going to be a short job."
