Republic of Ireland international defender Carr has been the subject of transfer speculation, with North London neighbours Arsenal also thought to be monitoring his situation.
Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson has signalled his intent to sign the best young players in the country by adding Lee Bowyer to his crop of stars and he could be ready to offer £5 million cash plus injury prone striker Cort, rated at around £1.5 million, for Carr.
Spurs tried to land the former Wimbledon forward two years ago but the gangly star opted for a move to Tyneside following The Dons` exit from The Premiership.
Cort is well down the pecking order at St James' Park behind Alan Shearer, Craig Bellamy, Shola Ameobi and Tresor Lomana Lua Lua and could be tempted by a move back to London.
With Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle offloading Sergei Rebrov, Les Ferdinand and Teddy Sheringham last term, he knows he is short of fire-power but will be reluctant to let his marauding Irish ace leave.
However, Robson could be set to approach Spurs about a possible deal by tempting Carr with the prospect of Champions League football.
