Espanyol are plotting a winter swoop for Tottenham's striking misfit Helder Postiga.
The Portugal international has failed to set White Hart Lane alight since his £6.25 million switch from Porto in the summer.
Postiga is still waiting to open his Spurs account after 13 appearances and has not come close to justifying his reputation as one of Europe's brightest young talents.
Spurs insist they will not contemplate offloading Postiga and are determined to provide the 21-year-old with the chance to prove the doubters wrong.
But Espanyol are ready to test the North London club's resolve in the New Year after coach Luis Fernandez decided Postiga is the man he wants to reinforce his attack.
Fernandez is chasing two new recruits when the transfer window reopens in January and is planning a loan bid for the young forward.
Reports emanating from Spain suggest Postiga's agent has already contacted Spurs to inform them of Espanyol's interest.
The other target for Fernandez is his compatriot Cyril Rool and a loan move for the Lens defender is also in the pipeline.
French stopper Rool recently hinted he is prepared to go abroad in search of a fresh challenge and may be tempted by any Espanyol offer.
