Edgar Davids is up for grabs again after Barcelona withdrew their three-year offer for the dynamic Holland international.
The dreadlocked Dutchman was outstanding during his country's dramatic 3-2 defeat to Czech Republic on Saturday and will have no shortage of offers after sparking Barca's rise up the table last term.
The Azulgrana wanted to make the loan move from Juventus permanent but Davids will now have his choice of clubs with Internazionale and Tottenham just two of the teams rumoured to be keen on his signature.
"Our offer to Davids was valid only until midnight on Friday," Barca president Joan Laporta told El Mundo Deportivo.
"Therefore, it no longer exists.
"Now we will begin conversations to seek a player who can substitute him with the same characteristics.
"Barcelona communicated to Davids's agent that the offer had a limit. The proposal came after we improved the first one.
"Therefore, already it was final. Our offer was excellent for Davids, to the extent that, in the club, we had the feeling that we were giving him more than what we had to give really.
"Davids is free to do what he wants, but Barca are also. Everything has a limit and a moment comes when you have to defend the interests of Barcelona."
The 31-year-old will not come cheaply but his main focus will, for the time being, be on ensuring Holland progress from the so-called Group of Death with Dick Advocaat's men requiring a huge favour from group winners Czech Republic in their final clash with Germany as the Oranje seek three points from their final first round date with plucky Latvia.
