The Blades are shaping up well for the coming season, and an opening day trip to Burnley, and manager Neil Warnock will be delighted by a victory.
Robbie Keane had opened the scoring, when he latched onto a Simon Davies through ball and smashed a dipping volley past Irish compatriot Paddy Kenny in the United goal.
It took Warnock's side just two minutes to level, when former Chelsea man Jon Harley produced a trademark shot from the edge of the box that left Kasey Keller a spectator.
The winner came on 67 when Jonathan Forte benefited from confusion in the Spurs defence to latch onto a long clearance from his goalkeeper and knock past Keller.
Leeds United recovered from a two-goal deficit against Spanish champions Valencia to earn a 2-2 draw.
Two goals in two minutes had put Leeds on the back foot at the break - with Mohamed Sissoko wrapping up a lightning break with a fine finish and Francisco Rufete latching onto a careless back-pass to double the visitors' advantage.
Youngster Simon Walton had an eventful afternoon scoring Leeds' first from the penalty spot after Julian Joachim was felled.
But after a quickly taken Matthew Spring free kick had levelled the score, Walton received his marching orders for his second booking after a melee involving several players from both sides.
