Monaco want Fredi Kanoute but they are unlikely to sign the Spurs striker.Monaco want Tottenham Hotspur striker Fredi Kanoute but their move for the Mali international is likely to end in failure.
The French side are anxious to bring in a new striker before the close of the transfer window and have been linked with a string of hit-men.
The club have been unable to reach an agreement with Manchester City for Nicolas Anelka and Didier Deschamps has now requested information about Kanoute.
The angular forward has started all three matches for Spurs since Jacques Santini was appointed manager but that has not prevented rumours of an August exit.
Southampton were linked with the 26-year-old earlier this month but Kanoute insisted he is happy at White Hart Lane.
Reports in the Principality now suggest that Kanoute is a target for Monaco and Deschamps wants the former West Ham ace on loan.
But it seems their bid for Kanoute is unlikely to be realised as the player is eager to remain in The Premiership.
Monaco could now decide to rival Italian giants Roma in the hunt for Ajax marksman Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Roma have submitted an offer for the Sweden international while it is reported Monaco have already a bid rejected.
Ibrahimovic's preference appears to be for a switch to Serie A, leaving Monaco running out of time to sign a new striker as they also attempt to finalise a deal for Barcelona's Javier Saviola.
