Republic of Ireland have failed to select Spurs starlet Dean Marney.Tottenham starlet Dean Marney has revealed Republic of Ireland's hopes of having him available for selection have been thwarted.
Football Association of Ireland officials made enquiries about Marney's eligibility hoping he could play for the country.
The 20-year-old has burst onto the scene in the last few weeks after scoring twice against Everton.
It was reported that Marney did qualify for the Irish side through an Irish grandparent, but those hopes have been dashed with his only link being to an Irish great-grandparent.
"Some people from the Irish Football Association contacted Spurs last year to find out if I qualified for Ireland, but it turns out that I only have an Irish great-grandfather, which is not enough to make me eligible," Marney told Off The Ball.
