Iain Dowie says there is nothing he can do if Wayne Routledge wants to join Spurs.
Iain Dowie says there is nothing he can do if Wayne Routledge wants to join Tottenham, but he is still fighting to keep the England Under-21 international at Crystal Palace.
The Eagles boss knows the 19-year-old is out of contract in the summer and much could depend on whether the South Londoners retain their Premiership status.
After rejecting a new deal with Palace, the winger attracted criticism from club chairman Simon Jordan, but is still welcome to renegotiate fresh terms.
"Wayne's a player we are trying to convince to stay but, if we can't, he will still leave here as a friend," explained Dowie.
"I keep chipping away at him and he's probably bored of me now.
"I have never questioned his commitment to Palace.
"I would love him to stay and he knows that, but he's a 19-year-old man and makes his own decisions. It will all be resolved at the end of the season and, if he's interested in a move to Tottenham, then that's the way it is.
"I will be amazed if he doesn't turn out to be a top-class player."
