Colchester have denied that Tottenham have bid for Greg Halford.Tottenham are reportedly closing on the signature of Colchester's Greg Halford but the League One outfit have moved to deny that an official approach has been made.
The talented 20-year-old enjoyed an excellent season last term and had reportedly impressed sufficiently for Spurs to lodge a bid in the region of £500,000.
However, Colchester have issued a statement that claims they have received no approach from Tottenham for the player.
"Colchester United has received no formal contact - either to myself or the chairman - from Tottenham Hotspur or any other club for Greg Halford," Marie Partner told the club's official website.
"Greg reported for training last week and continues to prepare for the new season here at Layer Road."
Halford broke into Phil Parkinson's first team plans as a defender but has also played as a wide midfielder and as a striker.
Tottenham have adopted a transfer policy of recruiting promising youngsters and having proven his credentials for England's Under-21 side - Halford does appear to fit the current mould of recruits at White Hart Lane.
In recent weeks Colchester have intimated that they are under no pressure to sell but as with Craig Fagan last season, if a substantial offer is made then the money men at Layer Road may find it difficult to refuse.
