Robinson predicts bright times

Paul Robinson insists the current euphoria at White Hart Lane is here to stay.

Paul Robinson insists the current euphoria at White Hart Lane is here to stay as the club push for European football.

Tottenham are the club cited as being the most likely to break the hegemonic grip of The Premiership's top four - with a promising young squad channelled by old head Edgar Davids.

Spurs' ambition in the transfer market and the astute promptings of Martin Jol have led to a feeling of expectancy in North London and the club's start to the campaign - two wins and a draw - suggest it may not be a false dawn.

Robinson believes Jol is the right man to lead the club into Europe and has drawn parallels between the affable Dutchman and Jose Mourinho.

''He has top quality, bags of experience and a will to win,'' Robinson told The Sun.

''We also have a better mentality. Under previous boss Jacques Santini, the priority was not to concede and if we scored as well that was a bonus.

''Martin Jol has a completely different view. We can mix it and battle as we proved at Blackburn on Wednesday night.

''But we also believe we can go out and beat whoever we play. In many ways, our gaffer is like Mourinho - very confident and knows what he wants.

''This year there is a resoluteness mixed with a confidence which allows us to go out and play.

''The gaffer has gradually moulded a squad using the players he was given and adding some new ones. He has the respect of everyone.

''There is a real expectation this season. The fans have always been massively optimistic but this time it is with good reason.

''We don't fear anyone.''
