Davids eyes bright Spurs future

Edgar Davids believes the future is bright for Tottenham and has likened them to Ajax.

Edgar Davids believes the future is bright for Tottenham and has likened them to the great Ajax side of the early nineties.

The Dutchman has been impressed by the young talent at Tottenham and believes they have the potential to be successful.

Davids can see similarities at Tottenham from his days at Ajax when he helped the young side win three successive Dutch league titles and also the UEFA Champions League.

"There are definitely similarities. There are real reminders of Ajax and the important point now is that these young guys are aware of their talent and develop quickly," Davids told the Star on Sunday.

"We are still at the beginning of an adventure with a young squad. So everything is possible. And for me that's really exciting.

"Aaron Lennon has had a chance to shine and he's done it very well. But the same applies for him and for all of us.

"We must stay consistent and keep picking up points.

"What is important is that the guys are open to ideas and ready to improve.

"It's too early to say how well we are doing and whether we are moving closer to the level that teams like Arsenal are at.

"But there's no reason why we can't get there with hard work if we believe.

"It's going to be tough though. Before I came to England I thought it would be a tough league and that's exactly the way it's been so far."

Meanwhile, Mido hopes Tottenham will turn his loan move into a permanent arrangement.

The Egyptian international has been on-loan at Tottenham from Roma since last January.

The former Marseille hit-man has established himself at White Hart Lane and he wants the club to sign him permanently.

"I had a lot of problems but Martin Jol took me and put me on the right way. I'm determined not to let him down.

"This club has a lot of ambition and I can see there is a very good future - I would love to stay."
