Middlesbrough are looking to tie down Adam Johnson to a new contract.Adam Johnson is looking to sign a new long-term deal at Middlesbrough, amid reported interest from Tottenham.
The Sunderland-born winger, known as Jinky, is another product of Boro's highly productive academy and he has already caught the eye with a string of impressive displays for Steve McClaren's first team.
While impressing Boro's own management, Johnson's skills have not gone unnoticed elsewhere and now the club are locked in talks in order to secure the player's future.
Tottenham, who have previously failed to land Stewart Downing, have now turned their attentions to his younger team-mate and reports claim they have had a £1 million bid turned down.
Johnson's representative Ian Elliott insists that he has not been told of any bid for his client.
"We have not been made aware of any interest or bid from Tottenham," Elliott told skysports.com.
"I am sure Middlesbrough would have informed me, but they haven't."
Elliott confirmed that talks were ongoing over a new contract for the England Under-20 star.
"Adam is happy at Middlesbrough and obviously he is very flattered by the interest in him," he continued.
"At the end of the day all he wants to do is play on a regular basis and we are waiting for Middlesbrough to get back to us over his new deal."
Johnson penned a two-year deal last summer, but Boro have opened talks now that 18-year-old has made the breakthrough.
