Blues take aim at Gardner

Birmingham City are considering a bid for Spurs defender Anthony Gardner.

Birmingham City are considering a bid for Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner, according to skysports.com sources.

Blues boss Steve Bruce is still looking at ways of strengthening his squad before the transfer deadline on Tuesday as City face a battle against relegation to the Coca-Cola League.

Charlton Athletic were keen to sign the defender in the summer and there was bound to be fresh interest in his services this month.

Spurs boss Martin Jol has stressed that he does not want to deplete his squad further after allowing Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis and Noe Pamarot to join Portsmouth, another of Gardner's admirers.

However, it is believed that the former Port Vale centre back has caught Bruce's eye.

Birmingham are bidding to sign Sparta Prague stopper Martin Latka but Gardner has also emerged as a target for Bruce.

Latka is wanted by Middlesbrough as well and developments regarding his Premiership move are expected in the next couple of days.
