Tottenham could offer Radek Cerny to Wigan as a makeweight for Pascal Chimbonda
Tottenham are reportedly set to offer goalkeeper Radek Cerny as bait in their attempt to lure Pascal Chimbonda away from Wigan.
The French full back is desperate to leave The JJB Stadium this summer in order to further his career, but The Latics have slapped a hefty price tag on his head and already knocked back two Spurs offers.
However, reports have suggested that Wigan are finally ready to accept defeat and sell Chimbonda to their Premiership rivals early next month.
They had wanted £6 million but are expected to settle for a transfer fee in the region of £4.5 million.
That would still mark a healthy profit for Wigan, who snapped up the little-known defender for £500,000 last summer.
Paul Jewell's decision will no doubt have been influenced by the prospect of Cerny as a sweetener, as he looks to strengthen his goalkeeping options.
Cerny has been second choice to Paul Robinson at White Hart Lane and is unlikely to displace the England man if he remains.
Tottenham are also believed to be a step nearer to securing a deal for Carlton Cole, who was informed by Chelsea last week that he would be allowed to leave if the right offer came in.
Cole struggled to break into The Blues' first team last term but showed enough promise to attract the attention of several clubs in the top flight.
