Gardner aims high

Tottenham defender Anthony Gardner believes the club must aim high this season.

The White Hart Lane outfit just missed out on a place in the UEFA Champions League last term with a last day defeat to West Ham.

Gardner, who signed a deal with Tottenham earlier this week, feels the club must target a top four finish in the new season.

"Without putting pressure on ourselves I think it will be (their aim to finish in top four) and we have got to show the kind of football we can play," Gardner told Sky Sports News.

"We were holding our own against the so-called bigger teams last season and I don't see why we shouldn't be pushing for about fourth spot again or maybe even higher."

Spurs have been boosted by the arrivals of Didier Zokora and Dimitar Berbatov this summer and Gardener believes their additions can only be good for the team.

"They'll be new to the English game and it is down to the boys to help them adapt quickly," added Gardner. "We'll be doing that over the next couple of weeks.

"You have always got to try and bring other people in and getting them to settle in is difficult to do, but we have a good nucleus of English players in our own league and that helps."
